From the past few months, Corona virus aka Covid-19 has become a matter of grave concern for the whole world. We understand that this is one of the most difficult times in the history of modern civilization. None of us could have expected such quick turnaround of events and a national andinternational state of emergency.
During this time of uncertainty, take charge of what you can and practice social distancing. I have put together a list of tips and strategies to help you take charge of your nutrition and health while staying at home during the lockdown for Coronavirus prevention.
Eat the Right Foods
First things first, now that you have some extra time on hand, prioritize your nutrition and focus on supporting your immune system. Eat nutrient-dense home-cooked meals, instead of ordering out. Consume healthy foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, Vitamin C and probiotic-rich foods to boost your immune system. For my time-saving kitchen tips, please read: –

Try Some Plant-Based Recipes
Try new recipes and engage kids in a meal planning and prepping process. Explore websites like cookspiration.com, pulses.org, lentils.org for some nutrient-dense plant-based recipes.
Move More
Move your body even though you don’t have access to the gym. Go out for a walk and get some fresh air or try new home workouts. Try-out something that you’ve always wanted to learn, but never found the time to do so. You can play some outdoor games with your kids. Maintain social distance of at least 2 meters (6 feet) when outdoors. Exercising releases endorphins which will in turn help relieve stress and anxiety associated with Covid-19.
Reduce Stress or Emotional Eating
Practice non-food coping mechanisms such as Yoga, Meditation, Deep Breathing, Stretching, connecting with nature by going for a walk at the beach or by a lake. Keep a gratitude journal with you, instead of reaching out for food to manage stress and anxiety.
Follow A Routine
Stick to your daily routines. We all need quality night-sleep and that fresh air of the morning. Wear your official formal clothes instead of working in PJs at home. This will further help enhance productivity and allow you to stick to your daily routines and habits. Try to stick to your meal and snack times as usual.
Be Present In The Moment
Lastly, take this extra time to bond with your family and children instead of allowing stress and panic to take over and prevent you from being fully present with your family. If they are not living with you, connect with your friends and family over video calls. Read books and play games with your kids. I hope you take this time to Pause, Reflect, Be Creative and Create memories with your family without allowing social media and news to take up all your time.
